Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East Champions crowned - Taichi Watarai overall winner!
Six new Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East champions 2025/26 from four countries are crowned – rewarded for their strong performances in four rounds in Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Following the developments in the region, Round 5 at the Bahrain International Circuit and Round 6 at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit had to be officially cancelled after the decision of Formula 1 to cancel their respective events in April 2026. With this decision, the 2025/2026 series is now finished after four rounds.
The overall title for the first time in the history of the PCCME went to Japan: Taichi Watarai in his rookie season in the series could not only celebrate two wins and three second places but also two championships after finishing 7.5 points ahead of Australian Caleb Sumich – with the same result in the Rookie category. The title fight was very close throughout the season, with the two drivers separated by only a few points, resulting in very exciting racing.
In the ProAm category, Cedric Chassang from France, who took part in all four events, was rewarded for his consistent performance. The 44-year-old, who has quite a lot of experience in the PCCME, claimed six class victories in eight races and experienced a special highlight when he even made it to the overall podium once in the second race in Bahrain. Bankcy finished second in the ProAm classification, highlighted by a race win in Bahrain, while Sam Shahin showed remarkable consistency throughout the season with multiple second-place finishes on the podium.
In the Masters class, Krister Andero from Sweden claimed the title just three points ahead of Petr Brecka from the Czech Republic, the closest decision in this year's championship. Both are long-time members of the Porsche family in different series and provided some fascinating close racing over the season. There was a close battle among the top three drivers, with Mark J. Thomas, Krister Andero and Petr Brecka changing positions in the championship standings multiple times throughout the season.
The GCC title went to Khaled Al Ahmadi from Saudi Arabia, a long-time competitor in the PCCME who competed in the Pro category for the first time. He had a great year with four overall podium finishes over the season – also to the delight of the local fans in the Gulf region who celebrated his splendid races on the different tracks.
Seven X Seven secured the Team Championship in their debut season in the series, due to the great performances of drivers Watarai and Bankcy. The Japanese team competed against Mtech Competition, Saudi Racing and Team GP Elite and ultimately claimed the title.
“If there is a motto about this year's season, it could probably be 'from A to A, from Asia to Australia'! Taichi Watarai, Caleb Sumich and Team Seven X Seven all showed a magnificent performance and I want to send special congrats to them as well as to all our other winners. Thank you from the whole PCCME organization to all our drivers, partners, staff, supporters and teams fortheir contribution to another successful and impressive PCCME season!“
